Martha's Vineyard Museum

A book in which the speed and position of a ship, as well as events of importance, were recorded daily. Whaling logs sometimes included stamps and artwork indicating what might have been seen or happened during a day. This page from the ship Oscar's logbook in 1837 has stamps of a bark (they saw another whaleship) a whale's tail (they saw whales but didn't catch any) and a whole whale (they did catch some).
