In 1806, Noah Webster's quest for spelling reform was addressed in his first dictionary: A Compendious Dictionary of the English Language. In 1843 George & Charles Merriam, from Springfield, Ma., secured the rights to revise Webster's dictionary, resulting in Merriam-Webster's Dictionary, still in use today.
