Talcahuano, Chile

Located in the south of the central zone of Chile, the port city of Talcahuano was founded in 1764 by the Spanish. Its name means "Thundering Sky". The port was well known to 19th century American whaleships as they put in there often for fresh water, food and entertainment for crew members. It was also the site of a devastating 8.8 magnitude earthquake on Feb. 27, 2010.
